Some of the travel I've done...
I like to travel, and have been lucky enough to see some pretty cool places. I lived in Vienna, Austria for a year, and Bonn, Germany for about a year too. While I was there, I got to travel through most of Europe. I got to see a lot of the Eastern Europe in 1990/91 right after "The Wall" fell. Travel has been pretty important to me for a long time.
I didn't realize it at the time, of course, but my decision to study in Vienna really changed my life. That's where I met Heather. That was 1990. I lived in Pennsylvania, she lived in San Antonio, TX. After over a decade of friendship and seeing a special spark between us, we decided that we had to know if we could really be together. So, here we are - happy and in love in San Antonio. See? If I had been too timid or too whatever to go and study overseas and take the challenges of language, culture, adaptation, etc., I would have never met Heather. Study abroad - it will change your life.
The last trip I took was to Edinburgh, Scotland for the christening of my godson, Morgan Burns. Here's a picture of us - Heather, Morgan and Me. Neither Heather or I had been to Scotland before, so it was great to have such wonderful friends as Martin and Lucy Burns to show us around and translate for us. Don't know what a "hielan' coo" is? Well, it's this - a highland cow. Regrettably, we only had a long weekend to visit with the Burns's, but I think we'll find time to go back again.
Prior to the trip to Edinburgh, my last overseas trip was to Zimbabwe. My brother, sister, Sam (a friend of my brother's from college) and I traveled through some of the most beautiful country I can imagine. The contrasts in landscape there are amazing. The eastern highlands are lush and green, the western savanah is as arid as anything I've ever seen. Victoria Falls is beyond doubt the most impressive site I have ever seen. There are some pictures on the Photos page from that trip.
